Design Doodles

I sketched multiple designs last week and thought I would share my scarlet, feathered peplum dress with you all as I feel it most fitting for AW12. The bold colours in the dress including the scarlet in the peplum, and the peplum itself, fit in well with upcoming trends such as bright, block colours and feminine silhouettes. Initially when contemplating the design for this piece I envisioned it on a Blake Lively-esque character (a statuesque, young figure) and used this for inspiration for the fun peplum. I then however decided to increase the hemline on the dress for a more sophisticated and somewhat classier look.

Apologies for the badly drawn model!

Last of the Summer

So, I’ve just got back from Brittany and the long journey home made me realise how quickly the last few months have passed; I have definitely got a case of the summer blues! Recently I've become more and more obsessed with midi dresses, the sexy sister of the maxi, and this summer, a particular favourite piece of mine has been my navy asos midi dress. The light weight material makes it perfect for travelling and its versatility has allowed me to wear it in a variety of situations, teamed with flats and sunnies during the day or chunky heels in the evening.

Bottle Top Bag

Whilst flicking through my local magazine I came across a photo of singer Jessie J wearing a tee with bottle top embellished sleeves. Inspired by Jessie J and the quirkiness of this photo I decided to make my own bottle top clutch bag.
Jessie J
After a bit of a struggle I managed to collect a large haul of bottle tops from all over the world, courtesy of my friend (massive thanks.)
  • I used leatherette material for my clutch bag, and lined the insides with black silk. To do this I stitched the lining onto the back of my leatherette cut out.
  • I then stitched the sides of the material together, forming a clutch bag.
  • I tried and tested many different methods for attaching the bottle tops to the leather material, and although I initially wanted to turn the tops into buttons and sew them on to the bag; this however proved very difficult without denting the bottle tops. Due to this I ended up super gluing the bottle tops on to the bag.

Introductions

I thought that a good way to start off this blog would be with a little introduction. I'm Sarah and I'm interested in a future career in fashion. I will be using this blog to post my opinions of current trends, upload outfits and to talk about various catwalk shows and desginers. I'm excited to become a part of this huge online community of bloggers, writers and designers.

Thanks for reading, more to come soon.
