Merry Christmas!

Is it bad to suffer the post-Christmas blues pre-Christmas? I think my lack of Festive Cheer must come from the fact I've spent the last week, which happened to be the first week of my holidays, in bed with flu; I'm hoping this illness also acts as a valid excuse for my lack of blog posts!
As my illness has prevented me from going anywhere, and thus preparing a blog post, I thought I'd share a few items which will certainly help persuade me to brave the January sales!

Mohair Wool Jumper- COS

High Neck Cami- Topshop

Art GCSE Final Piece

Remember me? Sorry, I know it's been a while! I thought I'd share some photographs from my GCSE final piece; a carcass applique dress, inspired by artists including Francis Bacon and Zhang Xiaotao. The aim of my final piece was to challenge/change the hushed attitude towards death and embrace it as something natural and inevitable.
I painted the dress on to silk like fabric and attached it to a t shirt dress, giving it an asymmetric hem; I burnt the silk to seal the fabric and added boning to the carcasses legs to make them more flexible and make it look more 3D. I also attached the silk, using elastic, to make it similar in appearance to a butcher's apron from behind.
Hope you like it!

Design Bundle

I was originally going to post a trio of vintage designs but after playing with the paint I decided these three would have to do.  The three designs are loosely vintage inspired; I also tried to create pieces which were slightly similar and sophisticated.

Design 1- Vintage Fur Collar Suit

For this design, I was loosely inspired by the 1920's and 30's. I wanted to try designing office wear and thought attempting to paint fur would benefit and develop my design skills. The bottom of the two piece's jacket has an alternative hem, which is slightly raised above the rest of the design.

Design 2- Houndstooth Dress

My second design was inspired by both the 1950's and 1960's; I also tried to incorporate Audrey Hepburn's style into this piece with the addition of the black satin gloves. I was interested to see how easy the houndstooth pattern would be to achieve using a paint brush (not very as it turns out!) I also chose to make the dress knee length to emphasise the classic style I was working towards.

Design 3- Fur Collar Dress

This design wasn't based on any time period in particular but vintage styles in general. Initially when painting this I was meant to be designing a coat, I found it difficult to look like outerwear and quite liked how it skimmed over the figure.

I'll be posting another post tomorrow (hopefully) to make up for last week.
Enjoy your Saturday!

Just a quick one

Thought I'd let you know that I'm currently finishing the designs for what was meant to be last week's blog post; so hold tight, lots coming this weekend!

In the meantime here's a photo of a plaited hair style I've been experimenting with.

Until next time

Recent Buys

Jumper: Zara, Dress: Zara, Jeans: Topshop
Spider Necklace: Asos

Managed to spend my birthday money! Today I bought a leatherette mini dress and jumper from Zara and some black Topshop Leigh jeans.  I bought the leather dress to go with my Asos spider necklace, which I apologise has been posted around every social networking site I have! Initially I was going to buy some Zara jeans as I find that the Topshop Leigh jeans don't wash very well; I ended up however buying a pair of Leigh's, which I'm really pleased with. The Zara jumper has buttons down the back, so I'm not quite sure if it counts as a cardigan.
Also at the beginning of this week I purchased real leather skirt from eBay for £7; it's maxi so it will need to be altered and made into a midi but I think it's a great alternative to the £90 Asos one I've been hopelessly searching for!

This week I found my 'Fashion Scrapbook' from when I was younger. Inside I found a few questionable designs, multiple of which were Avril Lavigne Skater girl inspired (thank God I'm over that!)

A few of the only designs not Avril inspired (pardon the names!)

Experimentation with animal print

I was sketching a few designs and decided experiment with animal print; I wanted to see if it could be easily achieved using water colours. Here I have incorporated leopard print into a simple peplum design.  In the future I'd like to try and use a variety of different patterns, including animal prints, in my designs.
Enjoy!

Excuses

I'm so sorry! I know this post is more than a little overdue but I seem to have been ridiculously busy lately! I'm afraid this weeks, late, post isn't fashion related because of my unusual lack of organisation. Due to this I decided to share with you a few snaps from the week of Birthday celebrations and silver Duke of Edinburgh.

16th Birthday with my lovely twin sister

Got dressmaking lessons for my birthday so hopefully one day I'll be able to actually make some of my designs!

Backwards 1 cake!

I'm glad I can now afford to buy some items from my fashion wish lists. Asos spider necklace come to mama!
More to come soon!
